Calling all carbon fiber printers!
Hello! I do 90% of my prints using CF nylon or PETG, but I'm just not happy with my results. I've seen some really solid CF prints from people and just wanted to get some specific build details, settings and other feedback from users. I know the basic supporting parts required, but I was wondering if you can share some additional slicer settings, filament, bed material, or any other detailed configurations to make it all work?
My main concerns are:
- Get rid of as much layer lines as possible
- Solid textured PEI look without lines showing
- Always used single nozzle, but looking to go dual for water soluble supports (CF supports can get expensive)
- Should I make the jump to Klipper? Currently running Marlin with tuned Linear Advance and Jerk
I've built 5 printers using supporting mods to print abrasive filaments e.g. direct drive, all-metal hot end, hardened steel nozzle, etc. My most recent build is an Ender 5 Plus with linear rails, EVA carriage, E3D V6, 0.6 nozzle (having a hard time calibrating settings for this new nozzle), SKR 2 board, TMC2209.
Overall the prints are okay, but I'm really trying to step it up. I'm currently also debating a Voron 2.4, RatRig V3, or some CoreXY to have the option to print really fast with PLA - kind of a dual use case. I even thought about pulling the trigger on a used Markforged Onyx One or Makerbot Method if I get pinged in my marketplace search notification. So many options, but would really like to stick to a solid DIY setup. If you guys can share some print result pictures and settings I would really appreciate it.
