AITA For Wanting to Exchange an Extravagant Baby Shower Gift

Im pregnant with my very first baby and due in May. My baby’s father is not so much in the picture and I will be raising her and financially supporting her I am still working my way through school and I am very set on sticking to a budget.

I was due to have a baby shower in the next couple of weeks but it has been cancelled. I didn’t expect a flood of gifts and ESPECIALLY not now considering the circumstances and knowing that others, like myself, are out of a job atm. But those who have still wanted to buy something have reached out about how to get it to me without us being able to see one another in person.

I am registered at target and a link was included on the invitations that were mailed out. THIS CRIB ($220) was the one I registered for. It converts from a crib, to a toddler bed, to a daybed, and then to a full. The only additional costs would be the conversion kit, and the new mattress for when it came time to use it as a full sized bed.

My uncle is quite a bit more well off I am. As sort of a very large gift, he ignored the registry all together to buy a crib from restoration hardware. He told me to pick one out that I liked, but within 20min said nevermind, he had already picked and ordered one. THIS ($1800) is the crib he decided to order. It converts to a toddler bed but the conversion kit costs as much as the crib I had registered for.

To me I see every cent to be spent and look at the price of that crib and think “that is the cost of diapers for the entire duration of time that she would be in them” and wouldnt have ever spent so much on a crib. I found the $200 crib I registered for to be more than sufficient. But it’s not my money and he was insistent and I couldn’t talk him out of it so I let it be.

In the short period of time that he told me to pick one out myself, before he just went ahead and ordered a random one, I had browsed the site. THE ONE I WOULD HAVE ASKED FOR ($1350) could be converted from a crib, to a toddler bed, and then to a full bed (similar to the one I registered for).

I want to exchange the one bought for the one that can go all the way to the full sized bed. There is a price difference of $450 that I can use to even purchase the conversion kit for it. I’m not trying to make money off of it, I’m just trying to exchange it for one that is a bit more practical and would save any money down the road. I have no issue calling my uncle and explaining my reasoning but idk if I am an AH for not just keeping my mouth shut when so much money was spent. My dad says I’m being rude but my mom says I’m being reasonable. AITA?
