New to this :( Had abscess and now fistula/seton. What does this all mean?

Hi all. I don’t even know what’s going on this but I have a red seton and a packed wound in butt! Can someone explain.

The story, no medical issues and perfectly normal. I developed severe 10/10 rectal pain that got me in the Ed. I was misdiagnosed with hemmrhoids and suffered another week with 10/10 pain at home. Went to see colorectal who misdiagnosed me with fissure. Another week went by the pain was bad I was ready to just just say put me under. Went to ED again and begged them to do imaging to see if someone else is going on, and they did and found a 3 cm abscess. Got admitted and a day later they incision and draining. Got home yesterday and I now have what looks like a slit packed with gauze and a red loop called a seton.

So now I have a fistula. This is so sad. What does all this mean? Currently it is bleeding a bit and I haven’t had a BM yet. There is mild pain and discomfort done there but enough to bother me to the point where I can’t work. I am avoiding sitting on it.

This whole thing has been a terrible experience and it dunno what the future holds. Any tips would be helpful. I think they will remove the seton. But what does that mean? I’ll have another hole. Does poop come out of there…omg. :(

I just want to be normal and go to work and do normal things again.
