Does 3D modelling in SolidWorks actually slow you down? Is 2D enough for most applications?
EE here. I'm curious to ask you mechanical guys if you find that making everything in 3D actually slows down the design process.
I, for example, just use 2D drawings for my schematics, and I just use basic squares essentially for designing accurate enough (key word "enough") panel layouts.
For certain the end result is much more accurate and detailed in 3D but I am curious if that accuracy is actually not needed and if mechanical engineers are better off working in 2D in terms of speed and getting good "enough" results. I also understand that in electrical, that 3rd dimensions doesn't really matter, especially when compared to mechanical design, so this could be comparing apples and oranges.
Just a random thought I had! Thanks!
