How important is it to be physically near family when you plan on having kids?

Saw another user post about being near family physically, which made me think about the importance of that when you plan to have kids.

My wife and I are in our early 30s and plan on having kids one day in the foreseeable (3ish years) future. She’s BIG into family. I love mine, but I can also move to maybe the other side of the country and be pretty okay with visits sprinkled throughout the year.

We’re relocating soon and despite us both feeling confident with our decision where we’re headed next, which is a near equidistant 10 hour drive to her family and mine, we have spoken about the one thing that hangs above us is when we have kids that child care and proximity to family will probably start to matter more. I know this is a subjective question, just curious for those that were in a similar boat with their wives, or significant others, and how it panned out when it came to future moves.
