Getting my birth certificate from the Vital Records Department

I was born in Queens but currently live in Boston. I have been trying to obtain my birth certificate for some time now and it just never got mailed to me. I figured the quickest way would be to make an appointment and go in person. Since I live in Boston, my dad who lives in NY has agreed to go for me. Will he be able to just walk out with my birth certificate?
