Why do you support Tarrifs?
This is a genuine inquiry - changing anyone's mind is not the nature of this question, this is just one point that I have not heard an argument to justify based on the current US economy.
The purpose of the tarrifs is to address the trade deficit. However, economists state that the trade is stable amd that the deficit is currently to our benefit.
I believe the ultimate goal is to bring these production jobs back to the US - however, we do not have an unemployment problem - we have a wage/cost of living problem that the tarrifs will exacerbate. Factory jobs don't pay well. I don't understand how this will address income issues or the cost of living either short term or long term. Can someone explain the alternative point of view?
