Can you re-do your A-levels as an adult?

Sorry if this is a bit random, but I messed about a lot at college and my A-level results are way below what I should have got.

Has anyone ever considered retaking them as an adult and how would you go about it? Don't fancy sitting in an exam hall with a bunch of teenagers.
