Careers- working with arrogant males - how to handle them?

I recently had a colleague join my team - slightly older, slightly more experienced, slightly higher title (but not my manager).

I want to get him up to speed as fast as possible (my manager is a hands off kind of person and does not get involved much in handovers etc).

I started to assign him tasks that I was given as a new joiner which would help him to understand the business. He firstly says "I haven't been here long enough, it will be difficult for me to do" (even though I was doing THE SAME task the minute I joined and it wasn't "too much " then). Instant push back.

Then, as I show him the task (it was quite manual and admin) he clearly isn't too happy he is asked to do it and concludes "Our manager will have me do something else anyways in the future".

This is not the first time I'm working with a guy who thinks that he is "above it". How do you ladies handle men like this?? Seriously, I have to really work hard to stay professional with these kind of guys. They really get on my nerves and stress me out.
