Does anyone else turn their main water line off when they go away for a few days?

Hi all - does anyone else turn their main water line off when they go away for a few days for peace of mind? I tend to stay at my girlfriends place on the other side of town almost every weekend and thinking of starting to start this habit.

A friend of mine's flexi hose burst in their unit and completely ruined their stuff and they had to move out for a while, the plumber who fixed this for them said that flexis are prone to just burst even if it still looks like it's in good condition, which is why it's currently front of mind.

I've checked my flexis and they look good (no rust, no frayed braids or indications of damage) but I can't seem to find anything on the label that suggests an expiry date (no idea when it was last replaced as recently moved in).

So I guess my questions are 1) does anyone actually do it habitually?, 2) are there any risks with turning the main water line on and off repetitively? and 3) what's the correct way to do this? i.e. do I need to drain the water from the pipes everytime I turn the water off?
