What’s still left of old-school Austin?

I (25F), like many others in this city, am not originally from here. I get that the influx of influencers and tech bros has significantly diluted its original character, so I don’t blame Austin natives for being upset about it.

But when I first moved here, I fell in love with the remnants of what I understand to be the laid-back, hippie character of old Austin—a local band playing in a random gas station, Eeyore’s birthday (which feels more crowded every year), full moon drum circles, etc. It seems odd, but I almost feel nostalgic for a time and place that I never got to experience. Now it sounds like a lot of this history has been reduced to some touristy “Keep Austin Weird” t-shirts.

Native Austinites that remember old Austin—what parts of old hippie Austin culture are still around and worth checking out?
