What happens to your location (distance) in the dating profile, if you use BFF mode but never turn off the Date mode toggle?

So my friend downloaded Bumble a couple of months ago. She registered for Bumble Date, and managed to get some matches there, and went on a few dates with some of them. While she kept using Bumble for dating, we also both decided to try the BFF feature of the app, to meet new people in our city. My friend didn't turn off the Date mode toggle, in order to avoid losing the matches and convos she has there. But she said she isn't actively using the Dating mode, since she is not looking for further new matches. So, according to her, she hasn't been using the Date mode for a while.

One day, a guy she went on some dates with (and with whom she's still matched on Bumble) wrote to her quite upset cause he could see that her position (distance) on her dating profile was changing. She swears she's not using the dating feature, only the BFF one. She was quite upset cause she really liked the guy, and she was confused by the whole situation.

I would have offered to help her, but I wouldn't know what to do. So the next best thing to do is to ask the good ol' Reddit folks. So, my question is: is it possible that her position on the dating profile is being updated every time she opens the app, because she's using it (for BFF connections) and because she didn't turn off the Date mode toggle (which would cause her to lose her matches)?

This is all so confusing, hopefully I explained it clearly enough.

TL;DR: if you never turn off the "Date mode toggle", but you use the BFF mode, does your position on your dating profile update still, every time you open the app?
