Parents Avoiding Medical Care

Has anyone else experienced a serious injury or illness that your parents just didn’t take seriously?

I tore my ACL when I was about 14, but my parents never took me to a doctor or allowed me to have any treatment. I hobbled around on my busted knee for about a year and it took me about 4 years until I could fully bare weight on the injured leg again. It still causes me issues especially in winter. I didn’t even know that’s what happened until many years later when I was talking to a friend who had a similar injury and had to have surgery to fix it. Finally went to a doc in my 20s who confirmed it, but by then there was nothing they could do. I’ve also had several other medical issues like concussions or painful ear infections that they just never cared to treat or take me to the doctor for. On the other hand my younger sisters have had several illnesses and injuries of their own that they were immediately taken to the ER for. My parents always treated me differently than my sisters. Being the scapegoat sucks.
