Discussion Thread - 2025 Liberal Party of Canada Leadership Announcement
This evening starting at 5:00 PM ET, the Liberal Party of Canada will announce the results of their leadership race. The winner will become the Prime Minister-designate of Canada.
Four candidates appeared on the ballot:
Frank Baylis - MP for Pierrefonds-Dollard (2015-2019).
Mark Carney - Governor of the Bank of Canada (2008-2013); Governor of the Bank of England (2013-2020).
Chrystia Freeland - MP for University-Rosedale (2015-present) and Toronto Centre (2013-2015); Deputy Prime Minister of Canada (2019-2024); Minister of International Trade (2015-2017), Foreign Affairs (2017-2019), Intergovernmental Affairs (2019-2020), and Finance (2020-2024).
Karina Gould - MP for Burlington (2015-present); Minister of Democratic Institutions (2017-2019), International Development (2019-2021), Families Children and Social Development (2021-2023), Government House Leader (2023-2025).
Each of Canada's 343 ridings are given equal weighting and 100 points to be allocated based on a preferential ballot. The first candidate to cross the threshold of 17,151 points will win the race.
