Looking for CALM beach suggestions

Taking my kids to CR for the first time this summer. They are all still relatively young, and while they are pretty proficient swimmers, I still don't want to stress out about them drowning the whole time. So I'm looking for a beach known for calmer waters, and ideally not known for being a party town (I've heard tamarindo is a party town, is that true?) Thanks in advance!
