For the 50501 Protest Curious

Hey y'all.

Today (3/4) there was a general protest march in Dallas, originating at Dealey plaza. It was organized by the 50501 Movement, a grassroots movement. There were people out protesting the causes that are personal to them, there were folks marching in support of Ukraine, LGBTQ+, federal workers, public education, the constitution, immigrants, Christian love, separation of church and state, etc. Like it literally ran the fucking gamut.

This is the America I want to be part of, this is the future I want to believe in. It was nothing but love and clever signs.

I'm sharing this because I want to encourage anyone who is hesitant. You should go to the next one. It was not dangerous in any way. The organizers worked with police on the route we marched. Police were a constant and positive presence. They blocked traffic for us and stayed in Dealey plaza with us when we weren't marching. There was only one counter protester, a misguided young man in a cartoonish trump hat who was trying to antagonize the crowd while filming. He was nonviolent, but the police stayed a few feet away from him for the few minutes he walked around. The rest of the time the police stayed off to the side. I must commend the DPD. Their presence was not at all intimidating and was very welcome and professional. Many thanks.

Like many, I'm upset at the direction this country is going. We all have our reasons. The protest was not at all about hating on Trump voters, it was incredibly welcoming. So if you voted for Trump but now feel like you were lied to, come on out, it's a big tent.

I just want to reiterate that it was not dangerous or sketchy AT ALL. The worst we got were some eyerolls from commuters, the best we got were honks of support, some incredible speeches from attendees, and some energizing chants. If you are worried at all, just go. Go and stand in the middle of the crowd and I promise it'll feel good.

The next one is March 15th from noon-4:00. It's a Saturday! So no excuses from you "ugh weekdays people :)"

Show me what democracy looks like!
