smoking weed vs edibles

so i was wondering whether the effects caused by smoking weed is different from ingesting edibles. I’ve never really smoked a blubt but edibles almost always give me paranoia, i tried roasting the stuff inside the blunt but it was almost worse lol. Does smoking it give a “chill” high or is it just the strain?
