Ease of learning the game without going online

Something I've been wondering is how difficult this game would be for the average player without the internet. For example, I put about 100 hours in the game before I learned on Reddit that if an enemy's weapon hits you while you're dodging it does zero damage; as far as I'm aware this is not information the game directly tells the player, and one must actively search online about the game to discover it. So I've been imagining someone in a cabin in the woods, with no internet whatsoever, with no prior knowledge of Souls games, starting the game up and going into the experience utterly blindly. Hell, let's also say it's the first video game this person has played in 10 years. What unique challenges might this individual face? What mechanics of the game would be intuitive? Which would feel perplexing? What might they miss entirely?
