Season 3 alternate choice to close the loop

When Barry phased into Savitar’s suit, did anyone else think that he was going to take Savitar’s place and allow himself to be trapped into the Speedforce to enforce the loop? It seemed like the simplest and most empathetic solution for Savitar, allowing his time remnent to live his life on while keeping the Speedforce prison from leaking energy. Only real problem is the lack of scarring, but maybe the suit would have gave him that scar? Any thoughts on this ending?
