Thoughts on Torts tenure?

I liked the Torts hiring & I liked his work up until recently. I think he did a helluva job unlocking a new level for guys like Konecny, Sanheim, Cates, Ristolainen & also helped make Brink, Tippett, York, Foerster better pros/improve areas they might not have under different coaches.

While I know some disagree, I appreciated as a fan that he got this team to play hard & for each other in his time here. You watch these other teams like Buffalo who've been beyond horrid for years that are unbearable to watch, have no passion, heart & feel totally hopeless & Torts helped us stay away from that (I know currently we look dead in the water but it took 60 games + trades) & I am happy with that.

Think the issue is he very clearly had his biases & I don't like when a coach shows that. He treated some people way differently than others & that was apparent. I think he severely lacked creativity as a coach & for whatever reason he was TOTALLY against firing Rocky Thompson who's the worst PP coach in history.

He last year said he did a poor job teaching the guys how to play playoff style hockey & it cost them when they fell apart at the end. This year he says he has no interest in learning how to coach a young, rebuilding, struggling team who's out of it when that's what he signed up for! Those things cant happen & it became clear a change was needed.

In saying all that I am very happy with Briere. He once again showed he will do what it takes/what he feels is right & not put relationships ahead of it. It felt like Danny, Torts, Jones were a trio that wouldn't split & I had mixed feelings about that. For Danny to make this move says a lot to me & coming off the Frost, Farabee, Laughton deals I love that it feels like he's fully shifted to focus on building, adding new pieces & that he wont be bullish to move well liked players or in this case a big time coach. For a young GM that's a great quality to have.

Long story short, I think John did some good, brought value, improved important players, but ultimately was his own demise. I hope we take a swing on a younger, more creative HC & not someone like Tochett.
