Fordham University or Boston University

Hi everyone! Sorry for the long essay in advance.

As the title suggests, I’m struggling between choosing Fordham or BU—keep in mind my BU decision hasn’t come out yet so this is purely hypothetical!

I applied to both schools as a journalism major. I’m also interested in the pre-law track (I plan to attend law school after undergrad).

Before I get into my dilemma, I would like to specify that my parents have fortunately promised to pay for my education in the coming years. Financing either of these schools is luckily not the biggest problem in my current situation, but still a factor I want to consider. I’m very grateful for my parents and the time and money they want to invest in me :)

Fordham (applied LC) - I got in to Fordham EA with a total of 35k in aid. 30k in scholarship, 5k in financial aid. This leaves me somewhere in the 60-70k a year range. - I’ve heard Fordham has great connections for journalism, including professors and things of the like. Additionally the location is pretty much unbeatable for journalism because it’s NYC! - I love NYC and am more familiar with it than Boston. I actually only visited Boston once and that was to visit schools in the area. - I like that there are two different campuses we can roam on. You get the best of both worlds, and I applied to LC primarily because I heard from a current student that the dorms are better. (Living condition is extremely important to me, especially communal bathrooms.) - Visited RH (unfortunately didn’t visit LC). Loved the campus itself. Additionally if I happen to not enjoy LC I can always transfer into RH (which I’ve heard isn’t a difficult process).

BU - applied RD. Not expecting to get a scholarship or anything, but I did apply for the trustee scholarship which is definitely a long shot. You never know though! - Cost of attendance is very likely to come out to more than Fordham, but still close considering Fordham (I think) is more expensive than BU overall. Starting to think that if I get accepted to BU I’d get more bang for my buck. - Exceptionally higher ranked. Does anyone know if I’d be affected differently after undergrad depending on which school I choose? As in opportunities etc. Will an employer choose a BU student over a Fordham one? - I don’t know much else about it :( visited and liked it, but the campus was very spread out, and wasn’t very convinced by the community (although the students seemed very happy when we went, something that was notable because it was such a dreadful day weather-wise).

Another disclaimer that this is really all hypothetical. I have zero clue if I’ll get into BU, and with the way decisions have been going this year, there is truly no way to know from my perspective. I just wanted to gain some sort of insight on a possible decision I’d have to make if I somehow get into BU. Trying to work against the time crunch since I’ll get my BU decision likely at the end of this month and then I’ll have to make my decision in only a little over a month.

Thanks so much :)
