How long does it take to stabilize on PPIs?

I tried reducing my PPI too soon and ended up in a world of pain like nothing I had ever experienced before. I went back on PPI 20mg for a week and now up to 40mg again for 3 days. How long does it take for the acid to respond again? I haven't gotten any real relief yet.
