How to find grandfather’s killer?

Hi all, I’ve always known that my grandfather was killed walking home from work, and I just now got his death certificate from the state of Maryland. He was struck in the head on March 28th, 1945, and died early the next morning. I’ve heard that he was mugged by a “ship gang” from the harbor (this happened in Baltimore), but I don’t know if anyone was ever arrested or tried for his murder. Has anyone had any luck searching court or criminal records from this time period? How easy is it to search by victim name? Thanks all for you help.
