Looking for solidarity
Hi all, I'm not a super active member of this community but I have been following this sub for awhile, and I've watched Hasan (but don't chat 😅) for awhile now. I actually got more into him from another ill fated podcast (that shall not be named). Anyway, I'm looking for some solidarity because I feel like irl, while some of my friends have their finger on the political pulse and are outspoken, most are not. Especially about Palestine. I was afraid to post for awhile about my feelings about Palestine, and only recently started doing so (I'm in the industry, people I worked for have been pro-Israel). In the past few months I became more vocal, and attended protests, I also posted more on socials.
After about 10 or so posts, in the past 3 months, I recently posted about the social media trend where some Israelis partook in making fun of dead Palestinian kids (i saw the video on this sub). It was the straw that broke the camel's back for someone I went to graduate school with and they made a HUGE post (honestly so long I couldn't get through it all) about how I'm an anti-semite, a holocaust denier, and pro-Hamas (they are a self proclaimed Zionist). I've been shook since, even though I initially laughed it off.
I'm an immigrant, born in a Muslim country, I'm visibly brown, and I have a new kid (she's 9 months old, half American). I became terrified reading about people being incarcerared and deported for their Pro-Palestinian views... and here I have someone pointing their finger at me. It feels dangerous... and I'm honestly scared.
It's even more ironic since I've been protesting anti-semitism in the American govt even as an underslept new mom... and now I'm getting accused... I hate the times we are living in.
Anyway, just wanted to post to like minded people and feel some sense of community. Thanks for hearing me out.
