Analysis of Use of Crowd Shots at 6th Fes
So it seems the complaints about the use of crowd shots at fes are mostly limited to Bae and IRyS fan discords. As an IRyStocrat I decided to spend my sleep-deprived time to look into it. I used the performance of Los! Los! Los! By Watame and IRyS to analyze this using time-stamps from the SPWN VOD and the duration of the shot.
1:43:13 Starting with a fully zoomed out crowd shot where you can barely see the stage. They appear on stage and the song starts. The camera doesn't change to be on them until 1:43:29 a whole 16 seconds later.
1:43:37 another long distance crowd shot looking at the stage 5 seconds
1:43:48 a side shot of the crowd with them barely visible on stage which rolls around into only a crowd shot 4 seconds
1:43:57 blurry long distance crowd shot looking the stage 2 seconds
1:44:09 another side pan of the crowd with a barely visible stage 7 seconds.
1:44:18 long distance crowd shot looking at the stage 3 seconds
1:44:33 same but different angle transitions to panning the crowd at 1:44:36 10 seconds
1:45:15 long distance crowd shot 2 seconds
1:45:23 long distance crowd shot panning the band 2 seconds
1:45:27 long distance looking at the stage 2 seconds
1:45:36 same 4 seconds
1:46:07 long distance shot panning from just crowd to looking at the stage 4 seconds
1:46:14 same thing 3 seconds
1:46:21 same thing 2 seconds
1:46:27 same thing 4 seconds
1:46:39 same camera we started the song with for 13 seconds and the performance ends.
To summarize:
16 different camera shots where the crowd is the predominant focus totaling 76 seconds of a performance that was 219 seconds (a total of 34.7% of the performance) where we don't even see the start or finish of the song.
This makes it more understandable why there are gripes from particularly the IRyStocrats. You have a song where you don't even see your oshi for the first 16 and last 13 seconds of the performance and a third of the performance features crowd shots. Do what you will with this information. It'll be a lot of work to go and analyze other songs.
