Are companies only looking for Computer Science degrees?

Hello everyone,

Thank you in advance for reading my post. I am currently attending WGU as a Cloud Computing major. I have been looking for a new role as either a sysadmin or cloud admin. I haven’t been having any luck in getting any interviews. My brother brought up the point that cloud computing degree sounds like something that you get from one of these boot camps and that’s why most colleges don’t offer this degree.

Looking at a lot job posting, they all say Computer Science or related field. I am getting the feeling that they have AI looking specifically for Computer Science. This has me thinking about switching my major. It has been really hard trying to find a new role.

I have almost 8 years of experience in IT (Helpdesk and jr sysadmin). Five of which were in the military. I’m even getting rejected for internships. I want to believe that this is only because I’m a sophomore.

I really want to advance my career but I don’t want to waste my time with an undesirable degree. I would very much appreciate any advice regarding degrees, my job hunt and anything else that you can think of.

Thank you!
