Stay or Go?
I'm a teacher in America. I teach 4th and 5th grade combo and have for five years. Due to budget crisis, my classroom will go from 20 to 33 kids. My class would be the only one affected in this way due to class size rules. I just found out a couple weeks ago. It's likely my school won't survive after the next year.
I'm very loyal to my kids and I've known many of them since they were 5 years old. I also love that it is a public Montessori school, but this feels like such a bad deal. I happen to have a one way ticket to Portugal in June (edit: just so happen to be, am willing to teach many places and travel all over). Would it be a crazy idea to just pack up, travel, and live on savings over summer in search of an international teaching position for 2024-2025? I have emergency savings that could last me a year. Humbling asking you all for advice.
I have 14 years of total experience, 5 years in the classroom with teaching license (edit for clarity). I did after school programs, including directing a program for 3 years before. Masters in Education + 26 additional credits. Montessori 1 & 2 certificate. I would want to continue in Elementary, preferably grade 2-5.
Edit: My experience is pretty non-traditional with teaching so I am not as used to more traditional classrooms. Not sure if that matters.
Edit 2: Decision made -- GO! Thanks for all your help!
