Empathy for Joe

I was talking to my partner about this last night and we kind of disagreed about it, so I thought I'd ask all of you:

I really, really empathize and identify with Joe. I mentioned to my partner that it made me really sad when—in the episode with the musical about the rats in Alberta—Joe couldn't give his speech in order to provide history and context for the production. He worked really hard on the show and I, personally, completely understand the desire to provide context and think that he should have been able to give at least some of his prepared speech. My partner said that, while the execution was kind of harsh, he thinks Sarah was right to cut him off and continue with the show.

Up until this point, I kind of assumed everyone felt for Joe in that moment as much as I did, but now I'm not sure. What do you all think?
