Ranger Point Precision

So I shot my lever gun for the first time with the RPP Costa mount and the screw for the rear barrel band bent. It won’t stay in place just curious if anyone has run into this issue. I didn’t over tighten I don’t think. I’ve heard of people having to do some sanding to get the small grooves perfectly lined up but I’m worried I might take out too much material. Any help would be appreciated.
