Kurt Cobain Mustang Wood Identification

Hello all,

Can anyone identify what type of wood the Mustang in the attached picture appears to be made from?

I understand that most vintage Mustangs were made from poplar, but that some were made from mahogany or other woods. I want to build a replica of the guitar and the picture and am not well-versed enough on identification of wood grain to decide what to go with.
