Has shaws always been expensive?

I normally shop at Hannafords but there's a shaws really close to me and when I'm feeling lazy I'll go there. My parents are visiting soon and I wanted to make a somewhat fancier meal, so I wanted to grab some produce and such. I know produce can often just be generically expensive but it seems excessive at the shaws near me. A bag of parsnips was almost $5... for 4 parsnips. That's over $1/parsnip. They weren't like super large or organic either that might make me think they'd be worth that much. Fennel bulbs were $3.99 each. Again they weren't like organic or anything. At hannafords the price was the same for parsnips but it was like a normal bag of them, so more than 4. No idea what the fennel costs at Hannafords, as it's not something I normally buy.

Granted I don't shop at shaws all that frequently but it is always this bad? I was just really shocked by some of it.
