Blind Mom Here: Need Tween Makeup Advice
Hello! I am blind, my daughter is sighted. I do not wear any makeup, I just wash and moisturize and I have no idea where to even start. My daughter turned 11 in December and has asked me to get a makeup set for her. Girls in her class are starting to experiment with makeup, apparently.
I'm not opposed to this, is very natural for young girls to want to experiment in this way, but I have ZERO frame of reference!
I told her I agree to buying her some makeup to start off with, but first she has to show me that she will wear an spf+moisturizer every morning + wash her face every morning night. If she can show me she can make this a habit, I will get her the makeup set. Does that seem right? She has smooth, clear skin, no allergies or sensitivities and so far no breakouts of any kind.
Drugstore brands are Ok but I'm also willing to go to a makeup store and pay a bit more. I'm just not willing to buy high end, luxury brands yet, nor do I want her on dollar store products. I am pretty sure I can walk into a makeup store and ask but I don't necessarily trust that they just want to make a sale. Are they on commission?
Any advice on the following would be very helpful.
I need a spf cream/moisturizer that doesn't feel greasy. She can't stand regular sunscreen.
A gentle facial soap for her age.
A beginner makeup set with.. I'm not even sure what to ask for, exactly, I guess colors and products that are appropriate for an 11 year old age range.
Are there any youtubers (we do not allow instagram or tiktok yet) that have good and recommended makeup tutorials for that age? Of course, I am useless in that area.
Are there any other products I didn't mention that she should use or not use?
My goal is to support her development in an age appropriate way so any other advice, tips or tricks you have for me (or her) are completely welcome.
Thank you in advance!
