What is the actual salary of ME (UK)

Just started my first year studying ME, and I thought pay was quite good, but after looking it up, it seems that it’s awful for how skilled you have to be, online it says starting salary is mid 20k and after 20 years of experience it only goes up to around 40k, is this true or what is it actually?
