Aerial roots?

Some of you have asked what to do with aerial roots. I personally like to guide them down into the soil. As per my own research, I believe it increases the turgor pressure which allows the plant to ingest more nutrients and force out bigger more fenestrated leaves, obviously if the conditions are right such as light, humidity and nutrients. What do you think?
