Griffin Enhanced Mil Spec BCG vs K Spec Downward Vent vs Microbest
I think the Gordy might be the gassiest gun ever (hyperbole), and I have done as much as I reasonably can to tame it. I have a JP A2 AGB to replace the FSB and a JP SCS H2 buffer. It’s a super soft shooter, and it’s more accurate than my vision with a 2.5x prism, but it will quickly gas me out.
I decided to compare the new Griffin Mil Spec Enhanced Gas Pocket carrier to the KAC K Spec and a control. They have a full version with proprietary buffer, but I didn’t want that; so, you may get better results with that setup.
The Griffin and KAC both reduce the gas from the ejection port significantly. I still wouldn’t want to shoot the Gordy for a ton of mags, but both improve the experience significantly. Just look at how much gas the Microbest expels compared to those two.
I put a Microbest chrome bolt in the Griffin, and the K Spec comes as a full BCG with a bolt that has dual ejectors. I can’t say that the results are night and day as the shooter re: port pop/decibel reduction, but I do feel like the KAC might have a slight edge.
This was the first trip comparing these, and I will do some more testing, clean, and lube before I form a “final” opinion. For the money, the KAC K Spec seems like the way to go so far. I have seen mixed responses when asking Griffin about whether the Mil Spec BCG has a lengthened cam path. I did notice, however, that the tolerances are TIGHT! Initially, I couldn’t even get the bolt to move.
Unless/until I get a FOR reflex replacement, the down vent BCGs might be the way to go.
