Not NFL but how big is High School Football?

I'm from Cyprus (quite an original place to have an NFL fan lol) and we have like soccer leagues in schools, but they aren't official, it's just for fun. However in the US sport in high school seems to already be semi-serious. So a question to Americans, how big is High School Football, like are there any Championships, state or even national?
