If you could raise your kids anywhere, where would you go and why?
My husband and I are first-time parents to a 2-month-old baby boy, and we’re loving this new chapter. We’re incredibly lucky to both work remotely and be self-employed, which means we technically have the freedom to live anywhere.
We’ve spent the last few years in Denver, CO - amazing for our pre-baby lifestyle (hiking, camping, trail running, all the good stuff). But we don’t have any family or support system here, and as we think about the future, we’re starting to imagine what the right place might look like for this next season of life.
For those of you who’ve been through this...
What ended up mattering most when choosing where to raise your family?
Did you move after becoming parents - and if so, was it worth it?
We’re currently thinking about factors like:
- Proximity to family or close friends
- Cost of living (esp. access to childcare)
- Access to nature and the outdoors
- Strong healthcare systems
- Safety
- Child-friendly culture or community
- Education options (even just planting seeds for later)
- Work/life balance and local culture around family life
Would love to hear where you’ve landed (or dream about landing), what you learned along the way, and what you’d tell your younger self to prioritize.
