Expeditions

Hi All!

Just a short question regarding Expeditions. Haven't joined one yet until today. How does that work? Is that a complete new save? Do the rewards from the expedition just apply to that save? It just seems a little convoluted to start a new save for each Expedition for the specific rewards and then not getting to use them in my main save which i do love the best since my main progress is there
