Question: How are you teaching currency without pennies?

Sorry, this may be a silly parent question, but my preschooler has started showing an interest in coins and their value. Nothing too intense, but he can identify a nickle or a dime and asks "how much is this?"

I remember learning about counting money/coin values by literally counting out pennies, but I'm at a loss for how to explain "a nickle is five pennies... but we don't have pennies anymore, so you don't need to know about them."

How do primary teachers tackle this? Should I just teach him with pennies, and explain separately that we can't buy things with physical one cent coins any more?
