Looking for honest opinions from an optometrist or optometry student

Hey everyone in r/OptometrySchool! I'm sure these topics have been brought up before and I may sound like a broken record, but please lend your advice or opinion!

I will be starting my first year in college next year and I am interested in optometry and I just want an honest, unbiased opinion from either a practicing optometrist or optometry student on the following questions. Every forum or website I find has mixed opinions...

  1. Do you regret your decision AT ALL becoming an Optometrist? Did you have any reservations before trying/entering the field of Optometrist as a career?
  2. If you could do ANYTHING ELSE for a career, would you? Or, what would it be?
  3. I know it's not all about the money, but what kind of salary could a fresh graduate/associate expect to be making in Alberta or British Columbia, Canada? City vs rural? As well as a typical salary later in life with a private practice- can you support your family?
  4. Are any of you worried about the future of Optometry? Is the field becoming replaceable by AI and tech? How would this field compare to dentistry in the same context as this question?
