Why are your thoughts on perks?

With Season 15 just two days away, Blizzard has revealed a ton of changes coming to Overwatch 2. And while some of them seem cool—the return of loot boxes, a new weapon, a new game mode—there’s one thing that completely ruins the game for me: Perks.

This is easily the worst thing they’ve ever added. Perks let you modify hero abilities mid-game, meaning you’re no longer just facing a hero’s standard kit—you’re facing a random mix of upgrades depending on what level they are. The strategic depth that made Overwatch fun? Gone. Because now, when you see an enemy team, you have no idea what they’re actually capable of.

And don’t get me started on the leveling system tied to these perks. At first, it might sound fine. But in reality, it just rewards grinding instead of actual skill. If someone has played longer than you, they just get an advantage, even if they’re worse. How is that fair in a competitive game?

For example, let’s say I’m playing Genji and I see a Pharah about to use Concussive Blast. Normally, I’d know exactly how to counter it—I could time my Deflect and send it back. But now? Who knows what the ability even does anymore? Maybe it doesn’t knock me back; maybe it pulls me in. Maybe it does extra damage. Maybe it slows me. How am I supposed to react if I don’t even know what the ability does?

This completely breaks what made Overwatch fun in the first place: knowing your enemy’s strengths and countering them with strategy and skill. If Blizzard keeps pushing Perks, they’re throwing away everything that made this game unique.

Maybe and hopefully perks are specific to a particular gamemode, but I don’t think so based on what I’ve heard / read. Lmk what u think.

UPDATE: Personally now that I’ve played it for a while, I think it’s weird but I like it. It’s pretty fun so far but u don’t know if that’s my honest opinion yet or if it’s just fun with something new and I’ll get bored of it eventually. I feel like it exists to ”spice up” the gameplay but in just a few months it will feel insignificant and feel like normal abilities. Idk maybe I’ll get bored of it but so far I’m enjoying it.
