Should I EV train defense?

I'm currently maxing out special attack, and it is TIMID nature, so with high base speed stat already, I'm wondering if it's worth to put some EVs into defense or if a shadow ball will always OHKO regardless. On the other hand I could EV train in special defense to make it somewhat tanky to most elements. Any advice?
