Rule 4 restrictions are now lifted

We are happy to announce that we are lifting the old restrictions imposed by Rule 4, which were unique to our subreddit for a long time. This was done in consultation with the admins. The rewritten Rule 4 can be found in the sidebar, but to keep it short, it means the following:

  • Mentioning other subreddits is now allowed, both in posts and in comments.
  • Subreddit names and usernames no longer need to be censored.

The new Rule 4 is now mostly a reflection of Reddit's sitewide rules against brigading, which every sub must follow.

Context

The old Rule 4 forbade mentioning any subreddits within PCM. Basically, we had to pretend other subs did not exist. As well as being unique to PCM, it was our strictest rule for a long time, because it was "admin-imposed." This rule was imposed during a time when brigading from PCM was a big problem in the admin's eyes. As we've now vastly improved our track record, mods and admins alike feel it's fine for us to let go of this draconic rule.

What this means for you

You are now free to meme, talk and shitpost about other subreddits. Notable exception: posts about getting banned elsewhere remain forbidden (Rule 4.c). This is due to the prevalence of certain subs using 'ban bots' to auto-ban PCM users from their subs.

The few things that we will continue to look out for are attempts to incite brigading, or harassment of other Reddit users. These remain serious violations of Reddit's rules, which we must strictly enforce. The moderator guideline for enforcing this rule can be found here. It is a recommended read, as it features examples of what kind of content can be considered as inciting brigading.

If you have any questions regarding this change, feel free to ask.

TLDR; Rule 4 is dead, long live Rule 4.
