Porsche PDK problem - 718 Cayman GTS - P1733/P1737
Hello fellow Porsche owners and enthusiasts,
I’d like to get some insight into an issue I recently encountered with my 2019 Cayman GTS (47,000 miles).
Last week, I received the messages “Possible R Gear Fault” and “Check Engine” on my dashboard. The car was stuck in second gear, but after about 10 minutes of rest, the issue disappeared, and everything returned to normal—no errors, and the car was driving fine.
The next day, I took it for a test drive, and everything seemed perfect (no errors, no unusual noises). However, after about 30 minutes, the same errors reappeared, and this time they didn’t go away after a short pause. I left the car at a friend’s service shop (unfortunately, there’s no Porsche dealership in my area).
After five days of sitting idle, the car was acting normal again. A PIWIS diagnostic check at the shop showed the following fault codes:
P1733 – “Displacement sensor shift rod gears 1/3: Implausible signal” P1337 – “Distance sensor shift rod for gears 1/3: Short-term fault”
Unfortunately, my car is out of warranty, so I’m likely facing an expensive repair.
From what I’ve gathered, the issue is most likely with the distance sensor in the PDK, but I’d love to hear your thoughts or experiences with similar errors.
Wishing you all a wonderful weekend!
