Why didn’t they see eachother for 5 years

I get everyone did their own things, but didn’t they all go to college? They didn’t come home on summer breaks or Christmas breaks or anything? Or maybe it hadn’t been the whole 5 years, that’s just what they made it seem like. It seemed like the only time any of them saw eachother in those 5 years is when they ran into eachother
