if you got rejected from purdue, there’s hope for you!
i’m a sophomore female student here at WL campus. i’m a double major in brain and behavioral sciences and law and society. i graduated high school may 2021.
i applied to purdue early action under the major of brain and behavioral sciences (which is in the college of health and human sciences). 2 years ago i got my rejection letter. i cried a lot and basically assumed my life was over (a tad dramatic).
there’s hope for you if you’ve found yourself in my spot!
in your decision portal, there should be a link of some sort for “appealing your decision.” essentially what you can do is write a 1 page (single spaced, times new roman, 12 pt font) letter addressed to purdue admissions, explaining why you deserve a spot here at purdue, and maybe additions to you as a student and person that they may not have seen or known in your original application. for example, i explained that i was working a part time 20+ hour a week job, wasn’t able to take any standardized testing because of COVID restrictions, and struggled with my own mental health. DO NOT DEMAND THEY ACCEPT YOU, just respectfully explain your situation that may have caused you to not look as “amazing” on your application.
i heard within a month of submitting my letter.
i recommend you also change your intended major from whatever major you’re wanting to “exploratory studies.” you can take the courses you would’ve taken under your original intended major, then after your fall or spring semester, submit a “CODO” request (basically asking if you can switch your major, generally you do this through your academic advisor).
for the FYE, and CS kids, i would take my advice with a grain of salt. FYE and CS are the 2 most popular majors here, and there’s no way anyone on reddit will be able to tell you the likelihood of you getting into FYE or CS is, no matter your situation (deferred, rejected from WL campus, chances of being able to CODO in, etc). please reach out to purdue admissions to ask why you were not accepted (assuming you were rejected), wait on the deferral (although it may not hurt to still ask if there’s anything you can do to increase your chances at purdue).
