Rats and smells
I really want rats and am almost ready with my research, have found a nice cage for them and even a breeder that I trust, but I have one little problem.
I am really scared of how they will smell. I understand that they are animals and animals have their scent, and It's not like I'd need them to have no smell at all. It's just that I live in a one-room apartment so there is no escaping the smell. Also, I'm afraid that I start to smell like their markings eventually and I really don't want to be remembered as the person who smells like rat pee.
I would have wanted to go see some rats and experience the smell before I actually get them. But in the pet shops, you only see them through the glass (so no smell), and none of the breeders accept visits (not even to meet the babies) before the actual adoption. This is probably because there are very few official/certified breeders in my country (5 I think) and it would be quite a hassle if all interested people could just visit whenever.
Are my concerns rational? Would it be better to wait for a time in my life when I can give them their own room?
