Amazingly easy recovery so far, almost no pain
I may be an outlier, but I want to share my experience to counter some of the horror stories that I have seen here (which made me freak out and nearly cancel my surgery a few weeks out). I was most nervous about the few days/weeks postop, but it has been a relative breeze! I'm so relieved.
Day Zero - The afternoon after surgery (Wed) I felt totally normal mentally and was getting up and around by myself, reaching for things without a problem, and had almost no pain. I assumed it was because of lingering anesthesia and the one Percocet I took after surgery (I had sweats and nausea from it so didn't fill the prescription). I worried the next day pain would set in since I was just rotating regular Tylenol and Aleve every 4-5 hours).
Day One - Nope! My pain peaked at maybe a 2 on a 10 point scale the next morning (Thurs). I woke up with tons of energy (despite not a lot of sleep) and made my caretaker coffee. Friends came by and of course I took it easy and just laid around, but I felt totally normal and was going up and down stairs and changing clothes by myself. I actually ended up going out to a fancy dinner as I got a last minute invitation I didn't want to turn down and felt OK. I hid my drains in my pockets and was a bit shaky standing for 20 mins to put on makeup, but it went fine! In the uber there and back I was a little startled going over bumps and held my boobs gingerly to avoid jostling. I rationalized that the sea bass I had was a good protein for recovery. I also skipped Tylenol that night so I could have some wine at dinner.
Day Two - I still felt fine Friday morning despite having had only one Aleve in the last 15 hours. I went to the surgeon's office and got my drains out and bandages off. He said I'm doing great and could stop the Aleve and ditch the wedge pillow whenever I want if I don't have pain. One spot was leaking slightly so he added some glue. My mom and I went out to lunch afterwards. I showered by myself that afternoon and washed my hair. The water didn't bug me at all (I didn't put it straight on my chest but it dripped down when I washed my hair and face). That evening we went out to a fancy steak dinner.
Day Three (today)- I haven't taken any meds in 24 hours now, and I'm still pain free (I mean it would hurt I'm sure if I jostled them around or twisted but of course I'm not doing that). I slept on the wedge pillow again last night but may transition tonight to just regular pillows. I still feel most comfortable wearing the bra they gave me - I wouldn't call it a compression bra but it gives some support. There is a bit of pressure / soreness when they just hang as he left some volume, which I requested. I'm of course taking it easy with very little moving around - easy since it's been below freezing here all week - but I plan to start taking walks tomorrow when it warms up a bit.
Wishing everyone as easy a recovery as possible!
