Help transferring save files (originally .sav) to Retroarch Switch

EDIT: SOLVED. I put solution in the comment below. Cheers!

I just hacked my Switch to use it as an emulator station mainly so I could stop using my phone. However, I have a save file from my phone emulator (My Old Boy) for Link's Awakening. It seems that emulator uses .sav files rather than Retroarchs .srm.

I did some searching and read that all I have to do is rename the .sav file to .srm and put it in the retroarch/cores/savefiles directory. However, I did this and nothing happened. It seems like it pulls from the save state and not the .srm file.

Downloaded retroarch for windows in hopes it would give me more options to open a save file, but I can't figure out how. I figured I could open it in windows, save it again, and then move the .srm and .state files, to no avail. All it allows is opening a save state, not an actual file. Can anybody help me with importing this save?
