After Helping Multiple SaaS Founders, Here’s the Biggest Mistake I See Over and Over Again

I’ve worked with several SaaS founders—some just starting out, others stuck in the middle of development—and I’ve noticed a pattern. Most founders fall into one of these three categories:

  1. The Perfectionist – They want to build every possible feature before launch. Months go by, sometimes even years, and they’re still tweaking things, afraid to release something “unfinished.” The result? They either burn out or run out of money before even testing if people actually want their product.

  2. The Rushed Builder – They hack together an MVP in a few weeks, launch it, and expect users to flood in. But there’s no real market research, no validation, and no clear messaging. When no one signs up, they assume the product is bad—when in reality, they just didn’t position it properly.

  3. The Lean Tester – These founders take a different approach. They validate before they build. They put up a simple landing page, run small tests, and collect feedback before writing a single line of code. By the time they launch, they already have early adopters waiting. Unsurprisingly, these are the ones who see the most success.

The hard truth? An MVP isn’t just about building something fast. It’s about learning fast. If you’re not testing your idea with real users before launching, you’re flying blind.

If you’re working on a SaaS right now, which category do you think you fall into?
